[Full Script]

Hello and welcome to our newest episode of Update from Berlin.

The official agenda of the Bundestag and Bundesrat remain empty this week, as both chambers are not in session. However, next week (from July 3rd until 7th) will be the final session before the summer break that then will last until early September.

So what is happening?

EU Commission

The European Commission is having a meeting on Wednesday, June 28th. On the agenda are climate change, environmental destruction, as well as security and defense. They’ll also talk about a directive that addresses access to financial data and EU rules on payment providers. With this, the Commission also has the “digital Euro” and the future of Euro banknotes and coins on the table.

EU Council Meetings

There are also a bunch of ministerial council meetings scheduled at the European level. For example the Foreign Affairs Council and the Agriculture and Fisheries Council are meeting.

ECJ Sessions

At the ECJ we’re expecting closing remarks in a case concerning the legality of including fingerprints on national ID cards as well as judgment in a case concerning price declarations for deposit products.

Federal Court Sessions

Back in Germany, we’re also expecting action at the national courts.

The Constitutional Court will hold oral arguments on a case concerning remarks in report cards for students with learning disabilities.

The Bundesgerichtshof will hear the case of the Federal Cartel Office against Amazon on whether Amazon has a significant market dominant position in Germany. The BGH is also expected to hear a case concerning the disclosure requirements of a proprietary seller in the course of due diligence proceedings.

That’s it for this week. I’m looking forward to updating you again next week. Until then: Improve your Karma by leaving a like and a comment; and get in contact if you have any questions.
