Hello and welcome back to a new episode of Update from Berlin.
The Bundestag has a full agenda this week, so let’s get right to it:
MPs are going to discuss changes to the online-access law, which pushes government entities to increase use of online- and digital tools so citizens can access their services online.
They will also talk about various measures on climate protection, ranging from mobility to energy efficiency to Germany’s hydrogen strategy and changes to Germany’s federal climate protection act.
Another overarching topic – and there is of course much more on the agenda, which we aren’t covering here – will concern hospital funding. There will be a discussion on transparency on hospital treatments and a debate on changes to the hospital system in Germany.
On Friday, the parliament will discuss the EU AI Act, among other things, with regard to the scope of interpretation, which might remind you of the GDPR.
Looking at the committees:
On Wednesday, the Health Committee will have a hearing on the future of Germany’s public health service.
Also on Wednesday, the Environment Committee will debate changes to immission protection procedures in alignment to EU legislation and the Traffic Committee will debate measures to expedite approval procedures for public construction in the traffic sector.
In Brussels, the European Mobility Week kicked-off over the weekend and on Friday there will be a background-briefing for the press on the state of implementation of the laws on digital services and on digital markets.
There will be a couple of meetings at the EU level. On Thursday and Friday an informal ministerial meeting on transport will be hosted in Barcelona by the Spanish EU Presidency. On Friday, the AGRIFISH Council will have a regular meeting followed by a meeting of the Competitiveness Council next Monday.
That’s it for this week! As always, leave a like, comment, and share this video with your friends and colleagues!
